Brisbane City Council Shame File # 28

Calls to remove pile of rubble

BRISBANE City Council has been called to enforce the removal of a large mound of building rubble and soil from a Ransome property.

Bayside Coastcare project officer Ian Curtis said the pile of fill had been placed on the site at 101 Rickertt Rd during the past three months.

Mr Curtis said the area, earmarked for environmental protection under council's draft City Plan, was right on the Lota Creek flood plain.

"The matter has been reported to Brisbane City Council and inspectors have been out, the whole council cavalry has been out, and notices have been issued to the owner but the fill is still on the site," Mr Curtis said.

"Our main concern is that this material, which has been put onto the land without an appropriate council authorisation, will impact the flow of water through the Lota Creek flood plain."

Brisbane City Council Customer and Local Services Committee chairwoman Councillor Ann Bennison said council would not tolerate illegal filling of land, particularly when it had the potential to endanger waterways. can't say too much on this particular case other than that we are seeking to prosecute," Cr Bennison said.

"We are doing everything we can in that direction."

Council records revealed Mariburn Pty Ltd as the property owner, but no phone number was available and the company was not listed in the telephone book.

The Herald wrote to the company's Mansfield address asking for a comment on the matter. The company did not respond before deadline.
