PETITIONS

Petitions have been around for a long time, (some of their history is contained within House of Reps' factsheet) but there are some rules governing their acceptance into Parliament.

Your time and effort can be a complete waste of time of you were to collect several thousand signatures only to find out that the wording is not that required for a formal petition.

Every Parliament (after each election) has the right to decide the format of petitions it will receive during its term of office.

The best advice on offer is to check with the Clerk of Parliament etc. for the current wording.
